Colin and his family established The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation in memory of his mother who died of lung cancer and aims to raise money for cancer patients and their families. The Foundation will initially focus on the West of Scotland which has some of the highest cancer rates in the UK and more specifically, some of the highest lung cancer rates in the world.
The Elizabeth Montgomerie Building based at the Monklands Hospital in Lanarkshire will be the first project to be funded by the Foundation. Working the Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, the building will be designed by one of the world’s leading architects. As with all Maggie’s Centres, The Elizabeth Montgomerie Building will provide a cancer support specialist for information and advice and will offer a variety of services including one-to-one or group sessions with a clinical psychologist and practical advice from a benefits advisor.
