Colin Montgomerie - "I want to create a lasting legacy to my mother by supporting those affected by cancer"
Maggie's Lanarkshire

The foundation's first project is to build a Maggie's in Lanarkshire to provide support to cancer patients, families and carers.

Lanarkshire was chosen because it has some of the worst lung cancer rates in the world and the need is critical. People there are 50 percent more likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer than those in the rest of the UK. Find out more >>

Maggie's Aberdeen

The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and Maggie's announced plans for the new centre at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at Foresterhill, which will support families affected by cancer across Grampian.

Maggie's Aberdeen will offer support to the thousands of people affected by cancer in the region as well as their family and friends.

Centres

The first project is a campaign that aims to raise around £3.2 million over the next three years to fund the building of a Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre at Monklands Hospital, outside Airdrie. The venue is well chosen, with the area being one of Europe's cancer hotspots: 3,500 people in Lanarkshire will be diagnosed with cancer next year, and the area's inhabitants are 50% more likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer than people elsewhere in the UK.

Maggies Aberdeen will join Maggies Lanarkshire as the second Elizabeth Montgomerie Building, as part of Colin Montgomeries efforts to create a lasting legacy in his mothers name. The centre will be based at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary at Foresterhill. Maggie's already has several centres, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness.

Colin Montgomeire has set up a local board to drive forward Montys Maggies Appeal for Aberdeen. Monty’s Maggie’s Campaign chairman Colin Welsh, chief executive of Simmons and Company International and a cancer survivor himself, said: “The service that Maggie’s provides to cancer sufferers and their families is both invaluable and unique. Aberdeen is the only city in Scotland not to have a Maggie’s Centre and we aim to put that right.”

Colin Montgomerie said “I am determined to work with Maggie’s to ensure people living with cancer no longer have to suffer alone.”
