EMF - The Official Charity of the 2009 Johnnie Walker Championships

From 27th to 30th of August, Colin took part in the Johnnie Walker Championships at Gleneagles Hotel, Perthshire. Colin is the Chairman of the Championship and the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation was the official charity of the Tournament. This provided an ideal platform to promote the Foundation and to raise money. Over 40 volunteers were on course throughout the 4 days of the Tournament collecting donations from spectators. In addition, on Saturday night, Diageo generously allowed the Foundation to use the Pavilion on the 18th green for a Ryder Cup reception, hosted by Colin. David Howell, Dougie Donnelly and Mike Aitken, formerly golf correspondent of the Scotsman attended to talk about their experiences of the Ryder Cup and it featured a raffle and an auction, which included Ryder Cup tickets generously donated by Ryder Cup Ltd, a signed Manchester Utd shirt and a round of golf with Ally McCoist and Colin at Loch Lomond.

The Foundation raised over £45,000 throughout the tournament week. Colin said "My family and me are overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved with the Johnnie Walker Championships from the general public who made donations, the staff of Gleneagles and Diageo who helped make our fundraising efforts so successful and to the European Tour and Ryder Cup Ltd for their support. The Foundation is extremely important to me and my family and we are committed to reaching our target to support as many people affected by cancer as we can."
